Some Speculation On North

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I was curious, if this report Gary wanted us all to e-mail in about is THAT important, why doesn't he post it on his web site?

Two theories (and these are only theories)

1. Wouldn't be nifty-keen if he got a whole slew of people to e-mail in and then he could say he had a mailing list of X number of people?

2. He doesn't want to post it somewhere where someone could, forbid, link to it, and maybe even make comments about it. You know, like that one guy does;)

I got a message from his mailing list vendor apologizing that their server was down when North was trying to use it. He does not suffer computer failures happily - reading his web site it is clear why!

I don't question that the list server fumbled the ball, I just speculate as to why he wanted to go the list serv route in the first place.

I believe the reason is because his "Reality Check" newsletter reports are lengthy, and his web site uses Access memo fields, I don't think they would hold it all.

He has a very basic understanding of his data driven web site, and I don't think he knows how to create a new web page.

But he has always understood computers so well! Since 1985, in fact:

Hmm, maybe we can escape from Yourdon's frame if we do it like this:
