Answers

Exposure looks pretty good, although it does seem to fall off from top to bottom. Shadows are handled pretty well. The composition is good with the cicada diagonally oriented. Good background that has some texture but no bright highlights or deep shadows. Nice catch light in the eyes.

Pete, Not much to say about this one except gorgeous. One of the most striking insect photos I've seen in a long time. Certainly emphasizes the point that nature photography usually has 2 key components: a) being at the right place at the right time, which is often pure serendipity, and b) being able to take advantage of it. You've accomplished b) very nicely.

Yes, a very nice image indeed. There is noticable light fall off towards the bottom part of the image. I suppose a flash was used and some adjustment is probably needed in the future.
