98 Lies of the Lighthousekeeper

greenspun.com : LUSENET : 1998 Guam Elections : One Thread

The lighthousekeeper's lies about Gutierrez-Bordallo are adding up, and I think it's time to count them. I'm sure we'll come up with more than 98, but for some reason I just like that number. Not sure why...

So, I'll start the list of 98 lies, and you can feel free to add your own. Just try not to be redundant, and try to keep the numbers in order. Here goes...

Answers

Insinuating that we shouldn't elect '98 because they pardoned rapists. Well, Joe Ada pardoned four rapists on December 30, 1994, just before leaving office, yet Lighthousekeeper seems to overlook that.

-- Spotlight (truth@yahoo.com), October 12, 1998.

PDN reported that textbooks have been a problem since 1970, the problem lies with the bureaucracy at DOE, not anywhere else.

-- Spotlight (truth@yahoo.com), October 12, 1998.

The lie is that Chris Barnett, Mark Charfauros, Angel Santos, Joe Ada, David Lujan, Tony Leon Guerrero, Tony Sanchez, Chris Iarossi, and all their cronies have nothing to do with this entire website formed only to spread libel and lies in an effort to influence the election.

-- Spotlight (truth@yahoo.com), October 12, 1998.

Perpetuate the lies about the first family's involvement in drugs - a lie that will be proven in court as sheer political hate tactics, and that will result in the heavy penalty imposed by the LAW against Mark Charfauros. The LIE is that there is a legitimate concern here, when in fact Mark Chaufauros is spending $65,000 of our tax dollars to pay off David Lujan to keep this charade going. David Lujan's relatives are all over this case, the woman who first came up with the information was the wife of David's sister's son (Julie, the former private secretary to Joe Ada).

-- Spotlight (truth@yahoo.com), October 12, 1998.

Missy Torres is another sick political lie that was perpetrated by desperate enemies in 1994. It was proven to be just that, a lie. The people elected Carl Gutierrez despite the lie, they know better. Just last friday, a huge Republicans for Gutierrez-Bordallo was held at Chris Torres's house - there is no more animosity because the election is over and it's time for family to come together and support what is decent and good, a hardworking Governor and Lieutenant Governor who CARE about people, and don't spend their time building HATE and ANGER in our community. There is no place for that in this god-fearing community, and the ballot boxes will show that in November.

-- Spotlight (truth@yahoo.com), October 12, 1998.

Lighthousekeeper lies about power rates. In fact, our power is cheaper than it was four years ago, because we have bigger generators that use cheaper fuel. AND OUR POWER IS ON ??? Do I have to remind the lighthousekeeper that her UPS had a hard time keeping her computer on during the Ada Administration??!

-- Power to the People (power98@kuentos.guam.net), October 12, 1998.

Lighthousekeeper is crying about '98 illegally creating VISION 2001? Would she rather live in darkness without any plan for our government like we did during Joe Ada's time? How can anyone in their right mind critisize the government for working with the private sector and the community to set out goals and objectives for making our island a better place to be. And just because the community responded by saying "We want to keep '98 in there so we can retain responsible government" and made legal political donations, Lighthouse has a problem ??? Please !!

-- Pete (PAda@talaya.net), October 12, 1998.

Lighthousekeeper is blaming the legislature for the deficit, saying they appropriate the money. Well, yes they did appropriate the money, and then Joe Ada spent way over the appropriations. Appropriations are just that, spending caps that are there for the governor to live by. But if there is no money in the bank, the Organic Act says you can't spend it. Joe Ada chose to ignore that fact, and spent like a drunk sailor, racking up a $200 million dollar deficit, the biggest in Guam's history. Gutierrez has brought that down to $76. No matter which way you slice it, Gutierrez is a much better money manager, and he has never spent more than the government took in, in all his four years. Ada one year spent $96 million more than we took in, and those were the GOOD TIMES !!! Ay adai, what a waste.

-- Jesse Camacho (jcamacho@kuentos.guam.net), October 12, 1998.

The biggest lie is this so-called deposition by Antoinette Quitugua. Her boyfriend is in jail on drug charges, and he is close with David Lujan. Then David gets her to talk about an imaginary drug bust in 1994, when JOE ADA was governor, ADOLPH SCAMBELLURI was chief of police, and FRANK BLAS JR. was head of narcotics. Then while one side fo the mouth says these republicans are honest and clean, the other side says there was a coverup... why so that Tommy Tanaka would lose the election?

-- Spotlight (truth@yahoo.com), October 12, 1998.

The funniest lie is that the hard core republican upstanding normal supporters of ADA-CAMACHO actually will accept the fact that the fringe lunatic supporters of HITA and Mark Charfauros are being endorsed by their leader, Joe Ada. With Joe supporting Mark Charfauros, Angel Santos, Pedo Terlaje and Harold Cruz (someone needs to give him a drugtest!), and if four other democrats (like Ben and Willy and Frank and Frank) make it in on their own, guess who Joe Ada has screwed ??? The Republicans, because the democrats will have a majority of 8. Joe Ada's unholy alliance is going to be the downfall of his campaign, but when you only get 4400 votes in a primary, guess you have to look elsewhere for support. It's just puzzling how someone who claims to be the standard bearer of the conservatives can hook up with such fanatic, mindless, radical, irrational, violent and evil people.

-- Anybody but Charfauros (ABC@yahoo.com), October 12, 1998.

That lighthouse keeper is a guardian of truth. She/He can't even get half of the available data on a relevant subject together She/He posts an allegation of the truth. Must be a former hack reporter that was released from responsibility of informing the public.

-- (mulinu@mailexcite.com), October 12, 1998.

All you naysayers about the lighthouse are just a bunch of crybabies, I really don't care for all the details you people post. The only thing that matters, the bottom line is when you and I step into that voting booth, that's it! Personally, the 98 sins of karl doesn't sway my opinion either way, I've decided which way to go a long time ago, same goes for all the election ads as well.

I bet that "spotlight on lighthouse" is one of karla's stooges trying his/her hand at convincing propaganda..try harder spotlight so that your time passes more quickly, and you have a sense of achivement. Cause that's all you got.

How about the lie that Chris Barnett was really always just some honest objective reporter and talk show host, and then a few weeks after losing his job, he shows up as Vice Chair of some group that is handing out Angel Santos and Mark Charfauros literature as their own under some 7C's label. Ever occur to you that you may have wanted to pretend to be "objective" a little longer. Chris's true colors are showing -- guess he was an Angel supporter all along. Same goes for Brandon Ashcroft, the Marianas Variety reporter. He pretended to be objective, but kept on hanging out at Angel's office. The only one manipulating the media is Angel Santos and Mark Charfauros. Right, Angel ?? Remember the days when you used to tell us in Nasion Chamoru how to manipulate the media. Too bad, back then we really thought you were doing it for us. Now it turns out you're only doing it for yourself !

-- F. Blas (Fblas@pci.net), October 13, 1998.

Mark Charfauros/Angel Santos are not Joe ADA. How can you people continue to slander Joe saying that he has anything to do with what those people do on their own time. Joe ADA supports those two, even prior to this election. You people have a good time supporting Gutierrez without even realizing that the real financial power is in the legislature. The 21st/22nd legislatures, of which the budgets were passed by Gutierrez, were the most expensive in history. Also, what about the millions of dollars that Gutierrez couldn't account for as Chairman of Ways and Means during his tenure in the legislature. Also, what about Gutierrez being the biggest narc in the world, backstabbing his "UNCLE RICKY" by reporting him to the FEDS, and then si "BARBIE DOLL" teaming up with him for the gubenotorial in 94'.

-- Frank Cruz (kocruz@hotmail.com), October 13, 1998.

Carl Gutierrez ending load shedding is a lie. The Ada-Blas Administration negotiated the bond issues to fund the new base-load generators, introduced the bill that became law, and signed it into law. Carl just happened to be in office when the construction was completed.

These Carl supporters have selective memories. The cause of load-shedding were a booming economy, the loss of base-load generators during the 1992 typhoon season and the 1993 earthquake. Plans to build new generators where sidetracked by the politicking between the legislature and GPA.

Anyone can build generators if there's funding. It was the Ada administration that secured the funding.

-- (masmauleg@mailexcite.com), October 13, 1998.

Carl Gutierrez had more to do with causing the deficit than any other person in Guam. If every single appropriations bill that Carl's Ways and Means committee succeeded in getting passed by the Legislature from 1991-1994, the deficit would have been over $80 million more than it's December 1994 figure. Additionally, the 22nd Guam Legislature with its $43 million budget and 600 plus employees is the most expensive legislature in history. An amount nearly double that of the 24th Guam Legislature. We won't know what the deficit will be for FY98 until the election is long over but when the bill for the road paving, power polls and other vote-buying projects come in, it will probably be larger than it was in '94.

-- (therealtruth@yahoo.com), October 13, 1998.

Carl Gutierrez taking credit for building new schools is a lie. The Ada Administration sent the legislature an administration bill to authorize the issuance of a $175 million bond issue to fund the construction of new schools including the southern high school. The provisions of which were incorporated in Bill authored by Senator Ben Pangelinan, passed by the legislature and signed into law in 1993. The reallocation of these bond proceeds to build new elementary schools in 1997 was done through a bill authored by Senator Larry Kasperbauer.

-- (masmauleg@mailexcite.com), October 13, 1998.

Mr F Blas,

The "literature" was a public record obtained from the legislature documenting the content of the "Tapes". The 7-Cs Committee is against corruption and does not endorse ANY candidates. Maybe you weren't clear on that. Also, I was very objective on the air, and given my former employer's political ties to the administration, was not allowed much room to criticize the government.

Are you for or against corruption, Mr F Blas?

-- Chris (chris@malafunkshun.com), October 13, 1998.

Cool! We have some King Karl supporters on the forum. Welcome. It's not very surprising to me that you appear the day after I sent copies of what's being said on this forum to Ginger Cruz, Tyrone Taitano and Joey Kalvo. But welcome anyway.

Allow me to address some of your points:

1. You keep referring to me as a "she" and yet I am a male. I'm also not a former journalists, although I know a few. I work in the executive branch of govguam. So keep guessing.

2. You justify King Karl's pardoning of rapists by talking about things that Joe Ada did. I do not support Joe Ada or any candidate, but merely would like for the truth to come out. You are free to start a list of things you don't like about Joe Ada, but don't blame me for that. BTW, your logic that two wrongs make a right is weak. Karl's pardoning of rapists is no better because Joe did it too. If Joe jumped off a bridge ...

3. You blame the textbook problem on DOE's bureaucracy, which is definitely a problem. But how can DOE be the problem when Karl isn't giving them the money for the textbooks as mandated by law? This is a fact: BBMR (controlled by the King) hasn't given DOE the money that's been appropriated from textbooks. Dispute that.

4. I formed this website, and I have no affiliation with any candidate or any of the people you say are doing the site. This is the truth, and if you want to say otherwise, you are required to back it with proof. Do so now, or admit that you've lied about those people putting up this website.

5. We're not talking about the first family's involvement with drugs. We're talking specifically about Tommy Gutierrez and Roy Gutierrez, not the whole family. The evidence is not only the witness who has given a sworn deposition and has been threatened and offered bribes by the governor, but police officers within GPD who KNOW that this drug bust happened. These officers, if brought to the stand, will swear to it. The first family will lose this lawsuit, and they know it.

6. Karl admitted to having sex with Missy. It's in the ethics complaint documents at the legislature. Check it out before you make blind assertions. BTW, the ballot boxes do not prove innocence or guilt. Courts do.

7. You say I lied about power rates. Hey genius, it wasn't me that posted about the higher power and water rates -- it was someone else. Do some research before posting a statement like that. But you didn't answer the question: are our power and water bills higher now than they were 4 years ago? Mine are. Are they going to be raised next year as a result of Karl? Yup.

8. I'm not crying about an illegally created Vision 2001 -- I am pointing out that it was created illegally, which you have failed to address. There's nothing wrong with the governor wanting to create a plan -- just do it legally, by sending it to the legislature for approval. The legislature is the body that -- by law -- sets policy for the island of Guam. Do some research and you'll know this is true. And this Vision 2001 document was created with THOUSANDS of taxpayer dollars, and the King takes this taxpayer property and uses it to raise $200K. When did I give him permission to use my tax money to raise funds for his kampaign? Answer that, please.

9. You say the King is a good money manager, and yet the government is BROKE and we owe much more than we ever did under Joe Ada because of all the money Karl borrowed. And because of all that money he borrowed, we're paying more in overall taxes and getting LESS in return! Where are our taxes going? To fundraising efforts like driveway paving, power poles, THOUSANDS of jobs this year.

10. Your charges about the witness's boyfriend has nothing to do with her testimony. She was there at the motel with Tommy and Roy Gutierrez, she was in the administration for three years, she was a part of Karl's 94 kampaign -- she knows what happened, and Karl is scared of that. Why else would he offer her $500K to shut up?

11. Your incoherent statements about Joe Ada and Charfauros and HITA teaming up make no sense. Here are the facts: Karl is korrupt, anyone who hasn't been bought out knows that, and they'll campaign against him because they don't want another 4 years of korruption. Joe Ada doesn't want it, Charfauros doesn't, HITA supporters don't, Tom Ada doesn't, Ben Pangelinan doesn't, Francis Santos doesn't, Tony Unpingco doesn't, Carlotta Leon Guerrero doesn't ... the list goes on and on. Why are all these people against Karl's korruption? It has nothing to do with party lines -- it has everything to do with honesty. With the lies you've posted here, we know which side of honesty you stand on.

12. You talk about me not getting half of the available data on a relevant subject together, and yet ALL of your posts are shy of the facts. Instead of speaking in generalities, please state which assertions I've made that have only half the relevant data, and then I'll rebut your argument.

In closing, let me say that it's nice to have some new faces in the forum. I'm glad we're all able to see what kind of things Karl supporters have to say, because then they can be openly refuted in public. Which is what this forum is about -- all the other public forums and media have been shut down or intimidated by Karl, a fact that these new people have utterly ignored and failed to address. Any comments on the King's influence on MCV, KUAM, Marianas Variety, the Kuentos forum, the PDN, K57 ... ? Can't wait to hear them.

-- Lighthouse Keeper (lighthouse1999@yahoo.com), October 13, 1998.

It is about time we get some real sunshine in the forum of spotlight and darkness. To read the bias and lies of the self serving lighthouse there will be just darkness, ignorance and dispair. Come on mother of sunshine beam your sunlight to the dark side. We need to shine this little gloom from our political affairs.

-- Mother Sunshine (sunshine@yahoo.com), October 13, 1998.

I really have no idea what sunshine is talking about. If you have specific points to make, please do so.

For everyone else, here's a true story that illustrates why I use the name Lighthouse Keeper (besides the fact that that's the name my parents gave me:)

This is the transcript of the ACTUAL radio conversation of a US naval ship with Canadian authorities off the coast of Newfoundland.

Canadians: Please divert your course 15 degrees the South to avoid a collision.

Americans: Recommend you divert your course 15 degrees the North to avoid a collision.

Canadians: Negative. You will have to divert your course 15 degrees to the South to avoid a collision.

Americans: This is the Captain of a US Navy ship. I say again, divert YOUR course.

Canadians: No. I say again, you divert YOUR course.

Americans: THIS IS THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER USS LINCOLN, THE SECOND LARGEST SHIP IN THE UNITED STATES' ATLANTIC FLEET. WE ARE ACCOMPANIED BY THREE DESTROYERS, THREE CRUISERS AND NUMEROUS SUPPORT VESSELS. I DEMAND THAT YOU CHANGE YOUR COURSE 15 DEGREES NORTH, I SAY AGAIN, THAT'S ONE FIVE DEGREES NORTH, OR COUNTER-MEASURES WILL BE UNDERTAKEN TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THIS SHIP.

Canadians: This is a lighthouse. Your call.

(Note from Lighthouse Keeper: substitute Karl for the Naval ship, and you'll get my point)

-- Lighthouse (lighthouse1999@yahoo.com), October 14, 1998.

We are on Guam and not in Canada you must be clueless to the reality of things to come as your postings are not on course.

-- Shipwreck (Clueless@yahoo.com), October 14, 1998.

Clueless,

You missed the point entirely. I'm sorry I can't help you.

-- Lighthouse (lighthouse1999@yahoo.com), October 14, 1998.

Lighthouse you are a big joke. For all the time you have spend in this forum I have not read a single thought worthy of an intelligent discussion. Why don't you counsel Joe Ada on his failure to show up for the debate for the students of UOG. Help Joe overcome his fear of the work he should have to do. You and Joe deserve each other.

-- Pointer (Point Less@yahoo.com), October 14, 1998.

Dear Pointless,

Thank you for your points and your positive suggestions. You are certainly entitled to your opinions and to criticize my opinions. A couple suggestions, if I may: you say you have not read a single thought worthy of an intelligent discussion -- I suggest you solve this problem by putting forth a thought worthy of intelligent discussion yourself. Fill the void with your thoughts. The second suggestion: instead of attacking other people on this forum, attack their ideas, claims and arguments. Attack candidates on the issues. That's what this forum is about, not about making personal attacks on other people in the forum.

Thank you.

-- Lighthouse (lighthouse1999@yahoo.com), October 15, 1998.

Lighthouse (you mind if I call you Lighthouse?),

Pointless is right. You post almost exclusively facts or obvious conclusions logically drawn from the facts. Neither of those offer much opportunity for intelligent discussion. Maybe you should start posting lies and conclusions illogically derived from the lies so we can pick you apart like we do the 98ers.

Br'er Ron

-- RTT (Ratt@tat.tat), October 15, 1998.

Ratt and Lighthouse... the two of you are deserving of each other. I just can't imagine what posses you to believe that these ALLEGATIONS lodged against the Governor and members of his family are true. Let the FBI handle this and stop spreading these ALLEGATIONS as if they are true.

We all have a lot to be thankful for the work the Governor has done to move our island forward into the 21st Century. I bet this forum will end after the general election when the people say to Governor Carl Gutierrez that he is sill the one.

I am praying for your souls, and for peace among the ADA/CAMACHO supporters. You guys are too divided, and are creating such a hate fest here on our island community.

-- Buddy (buddy@hotmail.com), October 15, 1998.

Show me in documents where Joe ADA pardoned people. I only know of one, and that was because the man was old and sick, the govt. was spending too much too take care of him in prison. I even talked to Joe personally, and has followed his administration for many years. So prove to me that your allegations can be backed up, and I'll shut up...

-- Frank Cruz (kocruz@hotmail.com), October 16, 1998.

Mr. Buddy,

Thank you for your kind words. As for your statement that I should let the FBI handle the allegations about Karl and stop spreading the allegations as if they were truth ... I have a couple points to make:

* The FBI _is_ handling the allegations against Karl and will come out with indictments soon. So don't worry about that part.

* I don't spread unfounded allegations as truth. All my statements are based on documents, news reports, and eye witnesses. If you question any of my statements, I'd be glad to back them up. Just tell me specifically which allegations you're referring to.

Thank you, my good Buddy.

-- Lighthouse (lighthouse1999@yahoo.com), October 16, 1998.

Lighthouse

You just wish that there was an indictment? And your are right there may be indictments will be coming for Angel S. and Mark C. for illegal wire tapping. And BOG and Joe Ada is may be under the eyes of the FBI. It takes one to know one.

-- (Wish@yahoo.com), October 16, 1998.

Dear Wish,

I don't wish anything of the sort. No one can say for 100% sure -- not even the u.s. attorney or the fbi -- but I have very good information that indictments will come out on very high officials in the executive branch, and very likely the top official. But no one can say for sure. We'll see.

As for your statement about Angel and Mark and illegal wire tapping -- this is very potentially libelous. No evidence has been cited for these allegations, and no one has officially suggested that these two committed these illegal acts. Post evidence for your statements within two days or your statements will be removed.

If you're implying that Joe Ada is being investigated by the FBI because of one unsigned letter, you are a bit misguided. The FBI would need a little more evidence than that.

If there are people from the Ada administration or senators who have committed crimes, I say investigate them and prosecute. The same standard for everyone. Unfortunately for Karl, his opponents don't seem nearly as unethical.
