Starting up as a photojournalist

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Dirck Halstead : One Thread

Dear Sir, Im a 25 year old newly finished law student, living in Sweden. However, I4ve a passionate interest for photojournalism and would like to give it a try. What is a good way to get started? School? Apprentice? I think my photography is of decent level, I can write in a decent way and I am ready to give all I4ve got. I have been published a handful of times in regional newspapers, but I would like to give more to photojournalism than just the odd spot-news contribution. Please give me advice on how to get started, and also whether it4s a got idea at all to get into photojournalism, concidering the market amd that I have no problem finding job as a lawyer (however boring that is...).

Hi - I'm going through the same thing. And I just have to say -- if it's what you really really want, go for it. You can always come back to law, and say you took time off to see the world!
