Can I play DVDs on my PC?

Hi there! I would just like to ask if I can play DVDs on my Pentium PC just as I can play VCDs. Thanks!

Not with a CD-ROM drive -- you'll need to get a DVD-ROM drive.

Just an update: I bought the Creative Labs PC-DVD Encore 2X kit (with Dxr2 Decoder) a couple days ago. Installing it wasn't easy, but now I can play DVD movies on my TV (I've got "Blade Runner" and "Ashes of Time"). The on-screen image doesn't look that great, but the image on the TV is very good: there's a noticeable improvement over VHS.

The only problem is that the DVD player software doesn't play my VCDs properly: it cuts off the bottom of the screen. Which is unfortunate, because the kit was *much* cheaper than a standalone player (C$300, which is about US$200).

Is there software that will let me play movies on my DXR2 without the decoder card? I lost mine...

I know doing it in software will be slower, but it's possible right?
