A little tighter composition in a vertical format may also have worked. Leaving off the right quarter and probably left quarter would create more emphasis on the bud, itself, and the very nicely exposed leaves around it. That composition may also emaphasize the diagonal in the leaves surrounding the bud.

Nice image.

The folks who made my 8x10 print of this picture were probably thinking along the same lines as Joe. I have a largish (91K) JPEG on my Web page which shows approximately the 1.25:1 aspect ratio of that print. It is definitely a better composition. I looked through the viewfinder at some vertical compositions of this shot but couldn't find one I liked. Perhaps I'll get another chance some morning (on a new flower, this one only lasted a couple days).

Click here to see the cropped version.

Thanks for the suggestion.

This flower has a very nice creamy look to it! I like the way it is here better than the cropped version, although the difference between the two versions is very slight.

A very nice shot, and a very nice picture! The composition is excellent for me, and gives me a "soft" feeling of this Sunday morning. Technically, I am surprised how well you have captured this contrast range. The white is bright - and not burnt out, and the dark green is just that! If only there were some leaves on the bottom left corner. Anyway, I like it this way!

I disagree with the comment re changing this to a vertical. I think the composition is fine the way it is. Excellent exposure on a difficult subject.
