No vacations for hospital employees?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

A letter was just sent out today to all the employees of a local hospital here in northern California. It says in part - Because of the unknown but expected challengers to business unit operations as a result of the century change from 1900 to 2000, it will be vital to have sufficient staff, and especially leadership personnel available during the century transition. Except in emergency situations, vacations should not be scheduled to occur during the period from December 1, 1999 through January 31, 2000. Vacations scheduled between January 31, 2000 and March 31, 2000, may be subject to cancellation if year 2000 issues are not resolved. All leadership, department heads, and supervisors should expect to be "on duty", from 11:00pm, December 31, 1999 until at least 7:00 am, January 1, 2000. Department heads and supervisors should coordinate their department schedules to assure back up staff are availaable as needed. Does this sound like something may not be fixed in time? A two month block(possibly longer?) of no vacations sounds rather extreme for "expected challenges" 15 months from now. Do they know something we should know? Johan

Johan, did you get to read the thread where I talked about my friend who works for a large bank in Houston? She got a notice saying the same thing. I think we will start to see more of this as time goes along.
