What effect will the Millennium Bug Have on Macs?

The Millennium Bug, I understand, will have its greatest effect on mainframe computers. How seriously will Macintosh owners be affected? What should they do?

In the year 2000 section of its web site - http://www.apple.com/macos/info/2000.html - Apple Computer has this to say about the Mac:

While many other computer applications and operating systems cannot correctly process dates after Dec. 31, 1999, the Mac OS and most Mac applications will handle the year 2000 (and the next 27,940 years), no problem.

The only applications that might hiccup at one minute past midnight on New Year's Day 2000 are the few that do not take advantage of the Macintosh Toolbox calls available in every Macintosh ROM since the beginning of time.

They also reference a September 17, 1997, article in MacWorld - Macs avoid year 2000 snafu - that can be read at this address: http://macweek.zdnet.com/mw_1136/nw_2000.html

You may want to go to the Apple y2k site linked above to read what they have to say about it. They go into more depth and let you know what you might have to be careful of...

Good luck...
