Water, rocks, and leaf

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Nature Photography Image Critique : One Thread

Taken at Devil's Millhopper State Geological Site in Florida. N70, Sigma 70-210mm f4-5.6 at 210mm and f22. 5 second exposure. Circular polarizer. Fuji Provia. After a rainstorm. This a new genre for me, so I am very interested in what you think. Thanks in advance!

There are some wonderful abstracts burried in this composition! Really very excellent. But it isn't this cropping! I've made some croppings and told joe about them in his email.

I agree that this image would be great with some cropping thrown in. I would cut the image in half (horizontally) and discard the top half. Then, you'll have a very nice picture.

Same here. Cut off the top just above the yellow leaf for a square composition. Nice!

This image is too busy. There are too many elements vying for the viewer's attention. No amount of cropping will truly salvage this image.

That's too bad - the exposure looks really good and the image seems to be sharp, too.

I like this image. The colours and the structures and the "higlight" - yellow leaf, that all makes a very fine composition. Reminds me of Gustav Klimt (ever heard about him?).

Thanks, everyone, for the comments. They are a very necessary part of my education as a photographer.

I have posted a picture that is similar to this at sunrise (http://sunrise.scu.edu/photo). If you get a chance, please feel free to look at it and comment on it. Thanks again!
