Which VCD players would you recommend?

If you want to buy a standalone VCD player to play VCDs on your TV, which models are good? Or would it make more sense to just get a DVD player that can play VCDs?

I own a vcd player by sony (model mce-s50) which is a very good looking small box without all the karaoke features (I don't need them) you'll find in most vcd players, when you go shopping in Hong Kong.

I'm very satisfied with it (now owning almost 50 vcds) but I've one problem: On some vcd's the picture is jerky or not moving fluently. When I play the vcd's on my 24x CD ROM on the computer it's fine.

I think that's because the rotating speed in the vcd player is just single or double speed. Can anyone confirm that or has anyone a soluten for the problem (can you upgrade the speed with a little bit extra work?)

We strongly recommend the 2nd generation Pioneer DVD players with Karaoke features:

1) They render PAL & NTSC video correctly. 2) Karaoke features allow the selection of Mandarin or Cantonese 3) They provide the ability to play DVD's as well 4) They provide Karaoke features for karaoke VCD's 5) They seem to be reasonable priced

Do not buy Panasonic DVD players. They do want to touch the CD-R's VCD'ies at all according to their tech support. I am a sorry owner of Panasonic A110!

I recommend the panasonic sl-vp30, sl-vp35 or the sony dv700 if you concider buying a video-cd player. I have played severel video-cd's on a dvd player but I still get the best results on my video-cd player.

I've bought the Panasonic SL-VP30. It's small, portable, has a wireless remote, plays CD-R & few CD-RW, and costs about US$ 70,00

Very good choice
