Do any of the old Southern Subsidiaries survive on paper, ie, Alabama Great Southern, NO&NE, GS&F, etc?

Unless something's changed in the last couple of years, the corporate name of Carolina & Northwestern Railway is still in use.

There was newspaper article in the Fri., Jan.17, 1969, edition of the Washington (D.C.) EVENING STAR headlined SOUTHERN MERGER PLANS COMPLETE. It goes on to say, "The Southern Rwy. Co. announced today that the merger of two of its rail subsidiaries, the Alabama Great Southern and the New Orleans & North Eastern will become effective on Jan. 31(1969), with the Alabama Great Southern the surviving company." The merger was approved by the ICC and IRS. Did the NO&NE somehow survive this? A later article in the EVENING STAR dated Sat., Sept. 5, 1969, was headlined, SOUTHERN TO MERGER FOUR OF ITS UNITS. It said that the four subsidiaries would be merged into the CNO&TP, but it didn't name the four companies. This may have included AGS, GS&F, etc., or they may have been smaller properties like Chattanooga Traction. All of this was known as corporate simplifacation and was meant to close the books of the subsidiaries as a way to cut costs to the Southern. Any other views?

The Carolina and Northwest still runs from at least Hickory to Lenoir. I took a roll of pictures a few years back.

According to "The Historical Guide to North American Railroads", The AGS merged with the NO&NE in 1969. Also on page 407, they list several more Southern subsidiaries as of 1988. I counted 19.
