Excellent. Details about film, exposure? Ted.

Great shot Brad. Looks like there is a lot of details in the head, but my monitor doesn't do it justice. I too would like to hear the details (film, lens, etc)

IMO this is a terrific shot; I especially like the lighting, and the details are outstanding! I'm assuming that this was taken from a blind; if so, please give us specifics regarding the setup.

Very nice lighting! Was this natural or did you use fill-in?

Nice. But the wavy lines around the edges suggest oversharpening. The nice light feels early morning to me.

Outstanding. A great image.

Beautiful Image. I agree with Mike, but that's probably easy to fix. How did you get so close ??

I think ringing has more to do with the brutal compression decision that Mr. Mills made (forced to make?) rather than any oversharpening on his part.

Thanks for your response.

Info on the photo:

Camera=N90s

Lens=Nikon 300f2.8 w/1.4 converter
Film=Fuji 100 speed Negative

The scan is a Kodak photo CD and the image size has been reduced to 21k for posting to this site.

Shot was taken at Hilton Head Is. South Carolina. The place I was staying at overlooked an inlet. This bird was feeding in a marsh area a couple hundred yards from where I was staying. Just before sunset I walked out not expecting to get too close. The bird kept feeding and let me get this close (full frame, uncropped). No flash was used.

I realized that I forgot to put exposure information down. I did not record it but here is a guess but if I remember correctly the shot was hand held at f4 with a shutter speed between 1/500 or 1/1000

A very good rendering of the "Classic" Great Blue Heron Pose -- You did quite well -- now challenge yourself with the little bitty warblers and so on.... :-)

Beautiful!
