To everyone that wrote to me. I appreciated the advice. I thought of a few more things that I haven't seen posted yet. Scouring pads, lip balm and lice shampoo. I'm not offending anyone but if our water supply is gone and we rely on something else well... I'd rather prevent.

The lice shampoo that's being used for lice has become noneffective. My nieces got their lice from school. The one thing that works is vaseline. Smear on head and scalp thoroughly, place plastic bag over hair and leave on for at least 1 hour. Wash hair with Dawn soap. You may have to wash hair a few times to get vaseline completely out. My nieces haven't had lice since. The vaseline suffocates the lice. Don't buy expensive lip balm, just use vaseline on your lips. Because water will be a precious commodity, cook meals directly in the can (beans, vegetables, etc), you will avoid having to wash many items. Use aluminum foil to line pots and pans to cook in. Larger turkey roaster pans are great for cooking soups, etc.

My little tip for the day is to buy extra mantles for propane lanterns. No mantle, no light.

One more thing about lice, if you don't have vaseline available, you can use mayonnaise, just leave on longer.
