Even though I've read your question, my immediate reaction to the picture is:
What is this dark gloomy picture ????

I would have to disagree about "gloomy", I like the way the light is hitting the water, I also like the lines the water creates. By all means not a perfect picture, but not bad...

I agree with both of you. It is gloomy, and it's a good picture, almost abstract. It reminds me of H.R.Giger's artwork (the guy who designed the alien in the movie "Alien"). My only quibble is the little boulders in the right-lower corner, without them, the picture would be "cleaner" and more abstract, IMO.

I agree with Philipp about the lower portion of the frame not adding anything. Actually, I rather like cropping away all but the top left 50% of the image.

Different people have different tastes... I like the bottom, but would crop off the rocks on the left to make a square composition.

Thanks guys for the comments! I'll try some different croppings, but I sortof like it the way it is. Also one of you mentioned that "it's not a perfect picture." What constitutes a perfect picture. One that has all techinical elements correct (exposure, composition, light) or one that speaks to the viewer? I like this picture (biased opinion?:-) because of the lines of the water, the motion and relentless stream of nature. The dark gloominess of the surrounding boulders are essential to bring out the gleem of the water.. Well that's my self defense. :-) Thanks, Tim
