This was one of those opportunity shots. While eating breakfast one morning I looked out the window and noticed the frost on the back lawn. I grabbed my stuff and started to shoot. It wasn't until I moved in close, however, that I saw what I was looking for.

I like this quite a lot. Reminds me of a Freeman Patterson photograph. The brown leaf helps to break up the repeative pattern of the grass and constrasts with the green. The white frost also contrasts nicely with the dark shadows. It's basically a simple study of contrasting colours and shades. What is really nice about the composition is how the leaf points out of the corner; the stem drawing the eye diagonally to the lighter region. The opposite corner, in excellent contrast, gets darker. Well done.

A few other contrasts come to mind. Life and death. Winter and summer.

I like the asymmetry of the composition

One of the nicest frost pictures I've seen anywhere. The way two subjects seemingly at odds (in color, surface texture, and shape) work together in an artistic pattern of meshing curves shows a keen eye on your part. Bravo.

Strong composition! I particular like the diagonal lines, the texture, and the quality of the light of the image. Nice work!
