Seeking info on the Boone Fork Lumber Co, North Carolinagreenspun.com : LUSENET : Shortline, Narrow Gauge and Industrial Railroading : One Thread |
This weekend I was hiking in the N.C. mountians between Boone and Blowing Rock near Grandfather Mountain. I came across an old rail bed. I think it belonged to the Boone Fork Lumber Company.I would like to learn more about this operation and go back and see what I can find by hiking along the old railbed.
I don't know how to start. Does anyone have any info on this operation and/or can you tell me how to start?
The operation seems to have been associated with the Linville River RR which was part of the ET&WNC.

The Boone Fork Lumber Company line connected with the Linville River RR at Shulls Mill, NC. I have seen very few photos of this operation, but the ET&WNC Historical Society magazine did an excellent full issue article on the RR facilities at Shulls Mills a number of years ago. The article included photos, track plans, and history on the Shulls Mills area as well as drawings of the Linville River depot at that site. I strongly suggest you contact the ET&WNC Historical Society for a membership and further information. You would be amazed at the information they have uncovered. I am a member but do not have their contact information handy. Please drop me an email off-line and I will dig it out for you.Best Regards, Glenn Christensen
