I like the Katydid colour and the leaf colour. I do not like the deck end grain in the picture. If it were more out of focus then it would help, however, the colours of the deck ( a greyish light magenta) is not vary harmoninous with the green-blue IMO. The Kaydid is also centered horizontal and the eye is in the center. The board background thus occupies 50% and contributes nothing. The leaf has some interesting veining which is in focus and in harmony with the lines on the insect at least. Getting under the insect more to give it a little profile might also help to bring it out slighly, however, you'd still have the poor background.

I retract on thing I said. If you were to digitally blur the end grain out the deck colour is not too bad.

Great shot Jeff! This picture goes a long way in demonstrating one of nature's age old defenses - camoflauge! I almost missed the insect myself on first glance. Well done.

It is a nice image, but two things: the insect's head merges with the edge of the leaf and the bright and rectilinear area of lumber detract. Suggestions: move your point of view around a bit to get separation between the insect and the leaf and, after making a couple of "insurance shots" try to slip a piece of leaf in behind the bug to hide the lumber, especially the end grain, the bright area and the joint.

Probably the worst thing about it is how the edge of the leaf runs right behind the line of the insect's back. It's very distracting. Also, grain or not, the light color of the deck makes it the most prominant thing in the photo, which is not a good thing.
