Do you belive in Love at First Sight? : LUSENET : TitanicShack : One Thread

Mr. DiCaprio himself thinks you should "keep the faith." You may be asking "The faith of....?" The faith of Love at First Sight. So, I've gotta ask: "Do you belive?"

To answer my own question, yes.

-- Juliet (, March 25, 1998.

Never happened to me yet but yes, I believe.

I met my husband of 13 years while in high school. That was 17 years ago. I saw him and was smitten. (It took him a couple of months more.) I have proof I wrote it in my journal that day. "I think I'm in love." I've never looked back and never doubted it.

BUT!!! before you think I'm a complete romantic. Keeping love alive and thriving takes work. A lot of daily kindness, compassion, patience, respect, concern and a really big dose of stubborness. "Till death do us part, no matter who kills who first!"

If one doesn't, it would be hard to believe in "Titanic"'s love story as well....

ok, now i'm glad that i've got a few answers and i know i'm not the only hopless romantic on the face of this earth. thanx.

Okay, I've been with "my guy" for 3 years now and while I don't think it was "love at first sight", it sure was "lust at first sight". One look at his gorgeous arms and I was his :-) Maybe it's just an Aussie woman thing, because Nicole Kidman said the same thing about Tom Cruise.

-- Emma (, June 04, 1998.

Oh, and he had a gorgeous smile and beautiful blue eyes, so that helped too. :-)

Well...since you asked...yes and no. I think it's more possible for guys than girls, believe it or not. A lot of my guy friends have been getting married lately (that leaves me as the token single girl at all functions), and I watched them play the field disinterestedly for years previously. But it always seems that the beautiful ladies they are now married to got 'em like a brick between the eyes, quick and hard. In all their cases, they knew instantly that "she's the girl for me", while their wives had to be convinced for several months before they said "I do". Just an interesting pattern I felt like sharing.

I myself have experienced "lust at first sight" once. If "LOVE at first sight" is anything like it, then it must be a DAMNED powerful thing! :)

I'm 17 years old. I don't claim to be wise, and I understand that my own naivety, but I believe that there are forces which we can not control, can not overcome, and the greatest and most controversial of them (to me at least) is love. It is a concept that has spread the span of mankind, and mysticism and rational thinking all have there place here.

But: To love at first sight. I am a believer of incredible things, and though there was no true flash of lightning when I saw the girl I adore, I knew secretly, in a subtle way, that she stood out, and that I needed to keep an eye on her. I was in the 8th grade then, and now being a junior, going on senior, I still feel as impassioned as I first did, and even greater. As time has worn itself against the rock of the earth like winds and the erosion of jagged cliffs, I have affirmed ever-still my love for her as I learn more about her every day. I think, though I lack in earthly experience being merely 17, that I can discern lust and mere attraction from the mystical...assuming one believed in such things. But I have understood many examples of the past, and I truly believe it is possible. I feel it. Whether this is a mere dillusion or not, that is for the observer to say. I merely believe. And I truly love. And I can hardly wait for the day that I become financially secure, on the road of the "American Dream" of success, and then: I shall say, assuming that my idealism holds real truth,

Will you spend the rest of your life with me?

Alas, not a thing for now. In this topic of debate, I must prepare for my move next year for the prom.

But, it does exist. There are things most utterly profound that neither age nor relativity can measure, and the heart itself has reasons that defy reason. Sure, there are successes and failures in this game. But until you've tried, tried to achieve, tried to believe, then what then do you really know?

P.S. I cried when I first saw Titanic in the theaters, and it remains one of the most emotionally gut-wrenching of experiences I have had in my young, naive, hope-filled life.

hullo ewerybody. i just vant to say that the love at the first sight is the very special one. my husband jagpreet pardeep singh and myself first met at the punjabi temple, u kno? our eyes met and it was like BOOM. actually my eyes met his turban, but u kno, it is the same difference. jagpreet pardeep singh asked me out on a date and i was the happy gurl. on the first love date, i make him the roti and the lassi. he said, "u cook good food. i luv u" at that timing, i knew this was the magic from the heaven. we now marry and have 7 little kids. but they look very big with the turban on their head, u kno? i jus vant to say that the love at the first sight is the existing one.
