Good Leica repair place?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo: Creativity, Etc. : One Thread

Hi All,

I'm looking for a reliable shop that can fix/do maintenence on my Leica M3 and 2 lenses. Sherry Krauter, from Campbell Hill, NY, has been recommended in rec.photo.equipment.35mm--she is supposedly cheaper, faster and better than the Leica USA authorized factory for servicing M-series Leicas.

Can anyone corroborate this? Other recommendations (in the US, preferably on the east coast)?

Cheers,

~mason

Albert Sturm in Deltona, Fla. I don't have his phone number handy but he should be findable via dir assistance. If you don't have any luck email me and I'll get it from my shop. Albert's done a lot of Leica and other repairs for me over the years.

I've always found Professional Camera Repairs in midtown Manhattan to be good . ( 46 St. between 5 & 6 I think. )

Don Goldberg (DAG) in McFarland, Wisconsin is one of the super Leica repairman. Raised in a tradition of quality work by his father Norman Goldberg, the inventor of the original Leica motor and longtime technical writer for Popular Photography, Don does everything right the first time. I say this from personal experience and from comments by everyone to whom I have recommended him.

Mason,

Sherry is the only person I would send my Leica for repairs. Everything you heard about her is true. She's the best!

I notice that since Mason asked his question in February, no one has suggested sending a camera to Leica Inc. for repair. This is a sad but true commentary on the state of the company.

From what I heard, Don Goldberg also does superb repair job on Minox cameras.

If you have screwmount Leicas, the ONLY place in the world which still has the old Leica parts is Kindermann Canada Inc.

Kindermann also repairs Minox 8x11mm /35mm cameras, their technicians are Leica factory trained, with Leica supplied test equipments.
