whats the law in scotland

i had aproperty repossesed in edinburgh in 1993, i never heard anything more about it until 1998 when eversheds contacted me regarding alleged shortfall i never admitted to the debt at the time and i moved house shortly after and up until the present time still haven`t even though im on the voters roll. i`ve read all about the 6 and 12 year rules but i`ve also read elsewhere that in scotland the limit is 5 years, does anybody know what the correct situation is in scotland thanks. charli.
