About the The Toilet Paper Chonicles: Gallows Humor from the Y2k Underground Forum

This forum was founded by veteran journalist Marianne Michaels, author of a forthcoming book, formerly titled, "The Toilet Paper Chronicles: Gallows Humor from the Y2k Underground".

When this forum was founded on January 4, 2000, it was intended as a "cyber watering hole" for people to share their "Y2k preparation stories,” in much the same fashion as returning W.W.II veterans chewed the fat at the local American Legion hall.

Upon founding this site, the author assumed that while Y2k would go down in many history books as many things, for those who gathered together at certain Web "watering holes" (that were faster than the Associated Press, sometimes funnier than Comedy Central, and always representative of everyone who ever tried to educate him or herself on this issue), a concise, good natured reference tool might be needed someday to explain to the grand kids why some folks may have added a “tin-foil” hat to their wardrobes in the late 90’s.

The 1990?s, that is!

(Gotta stop usin’ those two digit dates. Maybe I could remember better if I took off that tin foil hat. Geez! Where is that darn manual can opener? )

How this System Works

This bboard software was written by Philip Greenspun and hosted for free by him started in 1995. Anyone could come in and create a forum and moderate the discussion. Most of the thousands of forums on this server were and are publicly searchable by Google and other Web indices.
