zr-80 or 90 for deck?

I am using a Canon Xl1 and do not want to put the wear and tear on it by using it as my tape deck...and I cant afford a $1000 deck.Has anyone used a Canon ZR-80 or a ZR-90 to transfer Xl1 tapes to the computer? Are there any compatibility problems?
