why cant i get credit?

there have been several occassions recently that i have tried to get credit and been told i am not allowed to have it,i genuinely do not understand why not as im am not aware of any bills,debts etc i have defaulted on it is becoming a real inconvenience as my partner has to get any credit we need which is less than average i look forward to hearing from you jenny
