Using a light meter with DV

I have a JVC DV-500 and Canon XL-1. I also have Sekonic digital light meter. I am used to shooting film, but I want to use the meter for video. I am not sure how to do the transfer (ex. foot candles to LUX). Please help. Thank you. If you have any other lighting tips for me, since this is the first time I am shooting video, please feel free to post them. thanks again.
