Save quicktime file as mpeg

I've got a digital still camera (Nikon CP880)that produces quicktime videos of 40 second duration. 1. How do you edit a quicktime video? 2.Is there any way to change a quicktime file into an mpeg file? I think mpegs might e-mail more easily than quicktime. Also, could I do animation with this camera? If so, what program would I use? Thanks.
