I'm sure many of you saw David Blaine's block-of-ice stunt on tv this week. What better example of "gimmickry" could you ask for? Blain is, apparently, a pretty good magician - but he'd still be doing birthday parties and Bar Mitzvahs if it weren't for stunts like this one.(posted 8519 days ago)And the great thing about it is that it's pure gimmick: no magic, no action, no (real) difficulty (he's in a perfectly insulated airspace), and little danger (only from the ice collapsing as they extricated him. And so, the amazing thing is that he not only probably got paid a huge sum of money for this, but he gained incalculable amounts of publicity. I think I'll shut myself in my refrigerator for a week. Someone call the media!
