can I sell with repossession order

I was threatened with repossession hearing by Halifax Loans Ltd in March but this was cancelled as I paid arrears in full. I found a buyer and am living abroad. There have been delays with sale and Halifax have requested return of the deeds ? to repossess. We are about to exchange contracts.(there are around 700 pounds outstanding) Can they stop the sale and how do I find out if they have recommenced repossession hearing against me. If I pay the arrears in full can they still carry on with hearing? Did my solicitors have to send the deeds back to them.
