AUDIO USING A MINI DISC PLAYER

I'm shooting a low-budget film this summer using the XL1 and I've
heard that using a shotgun microphone in conjunction with a
mini-disc player is a good idea. We'd then mix together the audio
and video in post production. Is this a good idea? We've done
some tests and the sound seems incredible.
