Digi-Beta and close ups

I am a first-time filmmaker researching DV for my upcoming short. This website is very helpful! I'm going to rent a camera, but haven't decided on whether to shoot miniDV, Beta SP, or DigiBeta. I have a few questions. Hope they aren't dumb. 1. I've heard digi-beta is great to shoot with. Any thoughts, comments, would be helpful. 2. My "star" is a Pager, so a DV camera with a macro focus will be important. Or can I just rent a set of diopters? Again, any feedback would be appreciated!
