Any Experience With the Adaptec 8940 ???

I have found an Adaptec 3 port AHA-8940 capture card (with a firewire cable) for sale for $50. I have a Sony Digital8 camcorder and would like to play with digital editing. Is this a usable card for me or should I wait and buy a better card in the fall(I can't afford a new card and hard drive right now). Any input would be appreciated! Ron
