Response to dv vcr with lanc control

I have a Sony DHR-1000 w/ LANC control. It's hooked up to a $500 Sony IF-FXE 2 box which allows me to control the VCR with my Sony RM-440 controller via RS-422 cable. It works but it's sloooooow. Cue times are like 30 to 45 seconds! Certainly not frame accurate but probably within a few frames. This set-up has gotten me thru a transition period prior to purchasing an NLE.
