spirit of the game???

Hi all What is it with some people and having to win every game they play?? I know some people who won't play last stand scenarios just in case they lose!!! I also would like to say that to me the history of the game makes it what it is, but the new 40k suffers from an xtreme lack of history in the highest degree i mean its fine with me to 1/2 the price of the codexes as long as they still have some history in them!! Its ok for people like me who have been in the hobby for a long time but for beginners how are they going to find out about the Horus Heresy etc??
